Walk for Our Old Friends with Dogs Trust

Hey, friends.

This year, on 29th Oct, my sweet soulmate dog, Ellie, would have been 18.

To celebrate her birthday (& to avoid the usual heavy grief spiral anniversaries cause), I've decided to take part in Walk for Our Old Friends today to raise money for Dogs Trust.

Grief is cruel, capricious and has a horrible habit of creeping back in to attack when you're down, and I've made no secret of how hard it was to lose my bestie three years ago. I turned a corner when the budgie bros, Sam & Dean, came into my life, but to say things went downhill after losing them is an understatement. So, this year, along with my bird rehabbing & caring for Dad, I've leant into my part-time petsitting. I cannot begin to explain how rewarding and how much joy it has brought to my life. Even in the worst weather, even when walking long distances is rough because of my fibro, I always try my best to get out over the fields with my doggo friends, not only to give them (& myself) a bit of exercise, but to remind myself of the early years with Ellie, when we could spend hours over the same fields, without a care in the world.

So, this year, I thought it would be good for me to do the same walks I used to do with Ellie, to honour her memory & the fun we used to have, to give my buddy Dexter a good runaround, and maybe raise a little something for the dogs in need at Dogs Trust.

I understand money is tight for everyone of late. The cost of living is a big strain and I completely understand if no one can afford to donate. But it would mean the world if you are able to spare even the smallest amount to give me a little encouragement on what is historically a devastating day since Ellie's been gone, and most importantly, to help the lovely dogs who are in the care of Dogs Trust.

The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners. In 2023, they were able to successfully rehome over 10,000 dogs and cared for a total of 13,375 dogs (including over 300 Underdogs who had been with Dogs Trust for more than 6 months). With your help, Dogs Trust can continue helping more dogs in 2024 as the need for their services increases with the current cost of living crisis.
