I’m taking part in the 99k for Canines with Dogs Trust this February!

I’m making a positive start to 2025 by joining the Dogs Trust 99k for Canines challenge! I will be walking 99km throughout the month of February to raise money for all the dogs in their care.

The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners. In 2023, they were able to successfully rehome over 9,000 dogs and cared for a total of 11,464 dogs (including those through their Ukraine quarantine scheme as well as police dogs working at the Commonwealth Games!). With your help Dogs Trust hope to continue helping more dogs in 2025 as the need for their services increases with the current cost of living crisis.

How Dog’s Trust helps dogs in need

All dogs deserve a loving home. Dogs Trust aim is to find every dog in their care somewhere to call their own.

While they’re in their care, dogs may stay at one of their rehoming centres cared for by their expert staff, or in a dedicated foster home. They make sure dogs have everything they need to get back on their paws while they get to work searching for their forever home.

Through their adoption process, they carefully assess prospective adopters to find the right match for every dog, so that every four-legged friend gets the home they deserve.

Dogs come into their care for all kinds of reasons, each with a different personality and requirements. They get to know every dog in their care and give them the tailored support they need. Each of their rehoming centres has specialist facilities to give dogs the best possible care.

Their training and behaviour experts assess every dog and develop a bespoke plan of enrichment, care and training. For dogs who need extra support, they go the extra mile to help build their confidence and skills. That could be through introducing them to new activities or building up confidence around unfamiliar people, like our amazing canine carers.

Their dedicated veterinary teams ensure all dogs receive regular health checks and treatment. Many of their centres have dedicated vet suites, and some even have hydrotherapy tanks, run by qualified hydrotherapists. Some dogs will need additional vet care, perhaps to have a health condition investigated or monitored.

The average stay for a dog in one of their rehoming centres is just 47 days, but some dogs need more care and attention before they are ready to find their forever home. Those dogs will stay loved in their care for as long as they need us.
