99k for Canines 2026

I’m taking part in the 99k for Canines challenge with Dogs Trust!

I'm taking part in this challenge not just to help the dogs but for what the dogs trust did for me too. We had a family dog, Charlie, and he was a super cute golden Lab. He was absolutely besotted with my Dad and never left his side. In 2014, my dad passed away at home with Charlie still by his side. As Charlie was never left alone as my dad had retired, it was very difficult and heartbreaking as we couldn't keep him as everyone was out at work and he howled due to being lonely a d separation anxiety. After 8 years of being with us, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to contact the dogs trust (my dad had signed up to cover if anything happened to him) as it wasn't fair on Charlie not having the constant person with him and him being sad. That was one of the hardest days of my life but they were all so kind. I contacted every day to check on him and they never got annoyed with me, they kept me updated and then a week later, he had found the perfect home. Obviously, I'm not sure who that was but I am forever grateful to them for looking after him.

The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners.

Last year, they cared for 11,707 dogs across the UK and Ireland, rehomed 9,914 dogs, and helped deliver nearly one million meals to dogs in need through Fareshare foodbanks.

Your support helps them continue this vital work, especially as the cost of living crisis adds increased pressures for dog owners. The work of Dogs Trust is only possible with donations like yours. If you’re able to make a small contribution, I know they’d be incredibly grateful – and so would the dogs!

Thank you.
