Paws, Sweaty Palms, and 13.1 Miles: Why I’m Running the 2027 Great North Run for Dogs Trust!
If you had told me a while ago that I’d voluntarily sign up to run 13.1 miles through Newcastle, I’d have asked what kind of treats were being offered at the finish line.Well, turns out the treat is helping thousands of rescue dogs find their forever homes—so here we are!
I am officially running the 2027 Great North Run in support of the incredible team at Dogs Trust.
Now, if you know me, you know I’m no stranger to putting in the miles. But while my usual running routine involves tracking heart rate zones, perfecting soft-flask carbohydrate ratios, and obsessing over sub-minute pace targets, this run is all about one thing: helping every four-legged friend get the second chance they deserve.
Dogs Trust does mind-blowing work taking in, caring for, and rehoming thousands of dogs every year. From snazzy coat styling and endless tennis ball fetches to vital veterinary care, they make sure no dog is left behind. And let’s be honest—our furry companions are the absolute best running buddies, cheering squads, and post-run couch co-pilots in the world. The least I can do is sweat through a half marathon to repay the favor!
Running 13.1 miles is going to test every ounce of my aerobic engine, but every time my legs start feeling like heavy lead, I’ll just think of all those tail wags waiting on the other side.
How You Can Help (Without Getting Blisters!):
You don’t have to lace up your trainers or run a single yard to join the team. I’d be endlessly grateful if you could spare a few quid to support my fundraising goal.
Whether it’s the price of a pint, a fancy sourdough toast, or a coffee, every single penny goes directly to Dogs Trust to keep tail wags high and food bowls full.
