Great North Run 2025

Yikes!

So this year I turn 50! It's my birthday the day after the Great North Run and ten years ago I ran the course in just under 2.5 hours.

Now that I'm older, my body definitely feels different and I haven't been running for a long time so I'll be honest with you and disclose that at this time of signing up I have some serious misgivings about this journey! Nonetheless, I'll be running in memory of my beautiful Amaya who I lost aged 15 1/2 in 2022 and for all the wonderful dogs like him who deserve all the love that he had.

Amaya and his sparky little cousin Kiko pictured here with me, had the good fortune to be born into circumstances which almost guaranteed they had a loving home, but sadly not all dogs are that lucky, and I want to be able to do a little something to help them find their people.

I hope to do you proud Amaya my boy. Forevermore my love. X

My Updates

It's been a wild ride

So I've been doing laps of my estate which is 0.8 miles per circuit. I kept losing count of the laps after about 4 or 5 so I was keeping tally with a Sharpie on my arm.

The dog walkers I kept passing were very supportive which was appreciated!

I took a break as life got pretty hectic for a month and when I got back to it I was 3 miles into an 8 mile run when I tripped on a badly patched tarmac pavement at dusk took a dive and skidded to a halt. There were lots of grazes and I'm pretty sure I've cracked a rib as it still hurts 2 weeks later and is aggravated by exercise and sneezing. After walking for a while until my vision returned and the blood on my arm and hand clotted I went on to complete my 8 miles in the dark which felt pretty badass (until the morning after - BIG OW!)

So fingers crossed that my right knee holds up. I'm feeling very nervous about the whole thing to be honest, but I know the crowds are going to help me get through.

Huge thanks to all my donors! It's very much appreciated.
