Great North Run 2025

I’m taking part in the Great North Run with Dogs Trust!

I’m helping raise money for dogs in need by joining the Great North Run with Dogs Trust.

The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners. In 2023, they were able to successfully rehome over 10,000 dogs and cared for a total of 13,375 dogs (including over 300 Underdogs who had been with Dogs Trust for more than 6 months). With your help, Dogs Trust can continue helping more dogs in 2024 as the need for their services increases with the current cost of living crisis.

The work of Dogs Trust is only possible with support like yours, if you’re able to make a small contribution, I know they’d be extremely grateful – and so would the dogs!

Thank you.

I DID IT!!!

Great North Run 2025 First ever half marathon and it was tough, amazing, fun, emotional all at the same time!! I’m so proud of myself for doing it!!!! I never ever thought I’d be able to run 13.1 miles but I did!!!!!! 2 hours 19 minutes!!! Thank you for all of the donations I appreciate it so so much!!!! Roll on GNR 2026 - maybe 😂🫶🏼

8 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 8️⃣

8 mile ✅ A hard run following a night out celebrating the Sunderland win ❤️🤍 and every single drink was felt this morning!! Not my best effort but got it done and that’s the last long run before GNR in 7 days 🙃 Sooooo close with fundraising total - thanks to everyone who has donated it’s really appreciated!!!!!

10 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 1️⃣0️⃣

10 Mile ✅ A very rare evening run for me - I’m usually an early morning girl!! A new route which made the run easier 🫶🏼 Running been a struggle past few days pace wise bur just concentrating on getting miles in - hoping my pace improves (at least back to what it was) for GNR! Thanks for donations it’s really appreciates!

6 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 6️⃣

6 Mile ✅ Trying to just get the miles in rather than just concentrate on pace - this run was not my best, legs felt like they weighed a tonne 😂 but it’s done and all before a 8 hour work day 💪🏼

8 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 8️⃣

8.3 mile ✅
The plan was to get 9 miles in on Sunday but i planned my route slightly short 🙃🤭
Had a busy couple of weeks with trips away and my birthday but GNR training back in gear this week! I need to step it up!
Getting close to my target 🎯 thank you to everyone who has donated so far I and the dogs 🐶 appreciate it!

11 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 1️⃣1️⃣

11 Mile ✅ On a beautiful morning! Faster time than when I last ran 11 mile by about 6 mins. Felt a lot better too! Just over 5 weeks to go for GNR and its starting to feel very real 🙃 I’m looking forward to it but feel a bit nervous for some reason! July and August are busy months for me - birthdays and celebrations but just trying to get miles in where I can! 👌🏼 I’m a little bit under the weather as well but would rather this happen now than on GNR! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, I so appreciate it 🫶🏼

8 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 8️⃣

8 mile ✅ Life’s been busy but trying to squeeze in longer runs where I can! This morning before work, got 8.2 mile in! Keeping consistent with regular 5 and 10ks but the longer runs have been a struggle - July and August are really busy months for me! But I’m happy I managed to squeeze in 8 today! Just over 7 weeks to go to GNR 😳

11 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 1️⃣1️⃣

11 Mile ✅ Toughest run to day, legs felt heavy, wind was head on and my mind wasn’t in it! Been running on a Sunday but squeezed it in today (Saturday) so I can free my Sunday up to spend with the hubby who’s been working hard and long hours! I was ready to stop at mile 5, BUT because I’m stubborn I stuck it out! Discipline is part of training and I trained that hard today - which I’m proud of! 🙌🏼 got it done which is the main thing!! 12 mile in coming for you 💪🏼

10 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 1️⃣0️⃣

10 mile ✅ First time hitting double figure miles! Buzzing! Felt good, and I am buzzzzzzzing to be in the double figures 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Still need to work on stamina but I’m hoping it will come as training continues! Fundraising going well — thanks to everyone who has donated 🫶🏼

9 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 9️⃣

9 Mile ✅ Last two miles were tough, hilly 🥵😫 and a new route for me! Absolutely buzzing to have hit 9 mile….next double figures 🙌🏼 I enjoyed the first 7 mile, weather was lush, felt good! I’ll work on the stamina 🫶🏼 Made a good start with fundraising, I appreciate all donations - thanks to everyone who has donated ❤️

8 Mile 🏃🏼‍♀️ 8️⃣

8 Mile Run ✅ GNR training officially in progress 🙌🏼 Any donations are appreciated, I want to raise as much money as possible for the dawgs 🐕 Training plan is: One short run per week One long run per week (todays was my long) Today started off feeling good and strong managed to maintain a ok pace for the full run, but I’ll be looking to increase my speed along with the distance as I go!!

Longest Run To Date

Update - today I ran 7.78 miles which is my longest run to date! I even managed to do this before starting work 🫠 (I planned for 8 but didn’t plan an accurate route so was slightly short) Getting quicker with my 5 and 10k runs! Just need to work on building up distance! Regularly running parkruns which I am really enjoying!! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, it is really appreciated! I will be actively fundraising soon 🫶🏼 Weight loss is over 3 1/2 stone and I’m hoping to get another stone off over the next couple months! Feeling Good 😊

Introduction

Hi

For anyone who doesn’t know, my name is Hayley Walton, and this will be my first Great North Run.

Last year I decided to change my life and lose weight and get healthier and fitter and so I began running.

I’ve always admired runners and wanted to become one, but told myself I couldn’t run, it’s not for me etc. But this past year, following a rough couple of years personally, I decided to change my lifestyle, my mindset and my outlook. And realised I am more disciplined, I am more motivated, and I am more persistent than I ever believed I was and could be!

I’ve lost over 3 stone in weight, I’ve gotten fitter and stronger and I’m running consistently, and most importantly I enjoy running.

I set myself a goal to run the GNR and I’m sticking to it, I’m also raising money for what I believe is a great cause - Dogs Trust!

I love dogs, have one of my own, and really want to help fund raise for Dogs Trust so that they can continue to help dogs that are in need!

I am going to blog my running journey, building up to GNR, as currently the longest distance I have ran is 10k, so I have a lot more work to do!

My hope is that I raise as much money as I can for the dogs trust and that I complete a personal goal of completing the GNR in a good time!

Thank you to the Dogs Trust for allowing me to run on their behalf and thank you all in advance for your support!! And thank you from all the doggies that support is going to help!
