I’m taking part in the 99k for Canines challenge with Dogs Trust!

I’m making a positive start to 2026 by joining the Dogs Trust 99k for Canines challenge! I will be walking 99km throughout the month of February to raise vital funds for the dogs in their care.

The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners.

Last year, they cared for 11,707 dogs across the UK and Ireland, rehomed 9,914 dogs, and helped deliver nearly one million meals to dogs in need through Fareshare foodbanks.

Your support helps them continue this vital work, especially as the cost of living crisis adds increased pressures for dog owners. The work of Dogs Trust is only possible with donations like yours. If you’re able to make a small contribution, I know they’d be incredibly grateful – and so would the dogs!

Thank you.

Marathon miles

As the weather was good we decided to go for a walk from Clumber to Sherwood Forest which we estimated would total around 13 miles for a round trip. The air was mild and the ground was dry and we set out in good spirits, loaded with hydration and healthy snacks. Once we had left clumber and were on our way towards Sherwood we realised this walk seemed longer than the 5 miles stated on the signs. We soldiered on making sure to take rest stops on the way and finally made it to Sherwood, not realising it was an extra 2 miles to reach the visitor centre for a well earned refreshment! Overall the trail was quiet and we only had to cross 3 sections of road so had plenty of space to let the dogs roam at their own paces. Unfortunately the walk back was painful due to forming blisters however we were determined and the full walk clocked at 17 miles rather than the 13 we had intended. Now time for plenty of rest before the next weekend when we set off all over again.

Valentines ventures

The sun was shining bright on valentines which meant dusting off the walking boots in leau of wellies and reaching those milestones. Today's route of choice was a recently discovered trail leading from the back of Clumber Park to Thoresby Hall. From where we parked the car at the other side of Clumber to Thoresby was around 3.5 miles, so doing a round trip would be a good leg stretcher. On the trail we barely saw any other person and instead were kept company by a family of buzzards and some tranquil pigs wandering about their outdoor enclosures in a pig farm the trail ran through. Upon arriving at Thoresby a quick cafe stop was needed and we shared a well earned sausage roll with the now hungry doggos. The walk back was easy, reversing back down the same trail. Overall a very calming and sunny walk which I would definitely repeat.

Soggy stroll

The days may be getting longer but the weather is gloriously English. Grey clouds and soggy socks make up the majority of these winter days. Tried to keep the dogs clean by taking them down The Mineral Line which runs between Laughton village and Thurcroft. Lovely scenery and you rarely see a soul. Makes the soggy socks and wet dogs worth it!

Day 1 complete

Took dogs for a 5km walk to start the event off on the right foot! Walked around English fields and a solar panel farm. Hopefully the dogs will sleep well tonight when we are watching a film... wishful thinking.
