Nia and I are taking part in the 99k for Canines challenge with Dogs Trust!
I’m making a positive start to 2026 by joining the Dogs Trust 99k for Canines challenge! I will be running with Nia 99km throughout the month of February to raise vital funds for the dogs in their care.
The aim of Dogs Trust is to give stray and abandoned dogs a second chance at a brighter future with responsible, caring new owners.
Last year, they cared for 11,707 dogs across the UK and Ireland, rehomed 9,914 dogs, and helped deliver nearly one million meals to dogs in need through Fareshare foodbanks.
Your support helps them continue this vital work, especially as the cost of living crisis adds increased pressures for dog owners. The work of Dogs Trust is only possible with donations like yours. If you’re able to make a small contribution, I know they’d be incredibly grateful – and so would the dogs!
Thank you. Carol and Nia

Day 28 Last day of challenge!
Our last day and we walked to Erddig, I ran parkrun this week and Nia marshalled with Billy on the out and back section of course. We then walked home and Nia played with the ball, her favourite pastime but was not able to round the seagulls up on the Bricky today as there was a football match on and so had to go back on her lead!
Walking back from Erddig parkrun on the last day of our challenge!
Day 28 Last day
Day 27
Day 27 and our challenge is almost done! A lovely walk around Erddig with Neil ( and the ball!) Mild with a bit of drizzle but a nice walk .
Day 27
Day 26
Day 26 and the rain is back! Just a fine drizzle so we didn't get a soaking thank goodness! An enjoyable run in Erddig woods and I even managed to stay upright this week unlike last Thursday!
Day 26
Day 25
Day 25 and we got back to our hill training this week with our friends Clive and Helen. Another dry mild morning and even some of the mud is actually drying up so it was a good run! Another quick calculation takes us up to 140.79 km ( 87.427 miles)
Day 25
Day 24
Nia and I ran around Erddig in the lovely sunshine this morning, slightly different route to try and avoid the mud in top woods but we had an enjoyable run!
Day 24
Day 23
Just a short recovery run today through the woods in Erddig! A dry run , milder but still a chilly wind!
Day 23
Day 22
Day 22 and Nia, Neil and I went to meet friends Clive and Teresa and we ran around Erddig in the sunshine 🌞 for a change! Enjoyable run
Day 22
Day 21 ( day 6 mileage details)
Day 21 was a bit complicated! My watch didn't record all of our mileage today so I have put the picture of day 6 on to show how far it is to walk to Erddig Hall where parkrun starts and finishes. ( 2.60 km) we then parkwalked the 5km route and walked the 2.60 km back home! I didn't feel like I was up to running parkrun today after the fall in the mud that I had on Thursday! Two sore knees meant walking it a better option!
Day 21 ( day 6 mileage details)
Day 20
Day 20 and the rain ( and mud) are back with a vengeance! One very muddy dog when we got back but she enjoys it that's the main thing I suppose!
Day 20
Day 19
Day 17 18 and 19!
Back on track with our running now and lots of lovely donation from some very kind people! Dog lovers and parkrunners have been giving me donations as I run around Erddig so special thanks to them!
Day 16
Day 16
Day 16 and we are back in the woods in Erddig feeling very glad to be out running again! Nice morning, dry but a chilly wind but enjoying every second of it! Great to be back on track and doing what we enjoy best!
Day 15 ( up and running again! )
Day 15 and as I'm feeling a lot better decided that I'd try a short run through the woods in Erddig! Grey morning but at least the rain kept off until we got home! Great to be back out running again so hopefully we can get back into it again now!
Day 15 ( up and running again! )
Day 14 parkwalk
Nia and I walked to Erddig and walked parkrun route today then walked home again! With not being able to run all week I thought it was the perfect answer to boost our mileage up! Perfect day today, dry sunny but very cold so patches of ice on the course in places! Walked with Liz and had a nice chat as we walked!
Day 14 parkwalk
Day 13- more rain!
Day 13 - more rain!
Nia and I met up with my friend Jill and her dog Lucie this morning and had yet another walk in the rain and the mud! Nia had a great time running around with Lucie but kept taking her where her long lead would get tangled up in trees and bushes! Lucie is a rescue from Spain and although now coming along in leaps and bounds does still tend to be still slightly nervous of different situations so could be a flight risk, hence the long lead! Both dogs needed to have a final dip in the river before being brought home to try and get rid of some of the mud but a good morning was had by all.
Day 12
Day 12
Day 12 and a quick calculation tells me that we have run/walked 69.3 kms ( 43.061 miles) so far this month so I'm happy that despite my not being able to run due to my cold. We walked 6.44km today with Neil before he went to work.
Day 11
Day 11 walking again!
After a better day yesterday I thought I'd be able to try a run today but after a bad night I woke up feeling grotty so Nia and I went for a 7km walk instead! Felt better being out in the fresh air so glad we went. A few light showers but milder today, the mud is still horrendous though!
Day 10
Day 9 and 10
Day 9
Day 7 and 8
Saturday is parkrun day for me but we walked Nia there and back so that amounted to 5.20 km to Erddig Hall and back home! I did parkrun in the mud and Nia marshalled the out and back bit of the course with Billy!
Day 6 a muddy walk around Erddig!
Nia and I walked 8.12 km in the pouring rain this morning, very wet and very muddy! She had a great time chasing squirrels and rounding up seagulls on the Bricky on the way home!
Watch problems this morning
Nia and I did our usual 4.3 km (2.70 miles) route through the woods in Erddig this morning but for some reason my watch hadn't recorded it properly so I can't put a screenshot of it on my dashboard today! A quick calculation reveals that we have done 27.825 km so far this week. We don't run on a Friday but do go for a long walk so will hopefully record that if watch behaves to add onto the weekly total 😀
Tuesday 3rd
Day 3 and 4 !
Day 3 and 4
Tuesday 3rd Feb we did a tempo run around the woods in Erddig, back to the mud but very enjoyable!
The bandana not looking so good!
Day 1 before and after!
Day 2 3km recovery run
Day 2 !
Day 2 and slightly less muddy! Nia and I just did a 3km recovery run today after our longer one yesterday and parkrun on Saturday! The bandana washed OK yesterday and didn't get as muddy with it being a shorter run. We have a longer tempo run tomorrow so see how it fairs then!
A great start!
Nia and I made a great start with our challenge this morning! Had a nice run around Erddig ( 7.82 km) in lots of mud! Not sure her yellow bandana is going to last the month, it's rather brown and in a bit of a sorry state! Hope it washes OK and is ready for tomorrow!Thank you to my Sponsors
